SMU Tianyuan Scholarship
Background information
Tianyuan Manganese Industry Group is a leading enterprise in the production of electrolytic manganese metal in the world. Under the Belt and Road initiative of China, it acquired GHANA MANGANESE COMPANY LIMITED in 2016 and becomes its sole and only owner. In order to better serve the local society in Ghana and practice the concept of “Work Together to Create a Community of Shared Future for Mankind”, Ningxia Tianyuan Logistics Group Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Tianyuan Manganese Industry Group, sets up the “Tianyuan Scholarship” at Shanghai Maritime University in 2018 to sponsor outstanding international students who are enrolled SMU-RMU BLM Program students and are studying in the program, or SMU master and PhD candidates who used to be graduates from SMU-RMU BLM Program or excellent SMU lecturers involved in the teaching of SMU-RMU BLM Program.
Tianyuan Undergraduate scholarship
1.1Eligible candidates
The Tianyuan Undergraduate Scholarship is to be awarded to students who:
- are enrolled third-year students studying in SMU-RMU BLM Program;
- are Ghanaian in nationality;
- possess certain Chinese language skills and have taken and passed HSK tests of certain level;
- show clear intention to work for Tianyuan Manganese Industry Group after graduation;
- have passed the examinations and assessments of every subject/course of SMU-RMU BLM Program;
- has not violated any rules or regulations in any form.
1.2 Prize setting and selection criteria
The prizes are set up as followed:
- 1 winner of special prize of RMB 10,000:
eligible candidates for special prize should be those:
- whose academic performance of the last three years in BLM program ranked top 5% of the whole class;
- who have excellent general performance, and no record of violation of any rules or regulations;
- who have obtained HSK level 2 certificate.
- 5 winners of first prize of RMB 5,000:
- whose academic performance of the last three years in BLM program ranked top 20% of the whole class;
- who have excellent general performance, and no record of violation of any rules or regulations;
- who have obtained HSK level 1 certificate.
- 8 winners of second prize of RMB 3,000 .
- whose academic performance of the last three years in BLM program ranked top 35% of the whole class;
- who have excellent general performance, and no record of violation of any rules or regulations;
- who have obtained HSK level 1 certificate.
1.3 Application Process
Applicants must fill in and submit the following materials to IEC office by 5th July:
- “SMU Tianyuan Scholarship Application Form” (provided by Shanghai Maritime University);
- Transcripts of the first three academic years in SMU-RMU BLM program;
- HSK test certificate.
Besides submitting the above-mentioned materials, applicants will be required to attend an interview organized by the Scholarship Committee. Information on the interview will be given in due course.
