Dear Int’l Students;
According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Education Commission and the overall arrangement of Shanghai Maritime University in the prevention and control of Convid-19, the university has implemented an online teaching plan for undergraduate students for the spring semester of 2020. The implementation plan for the online teaching for undergraduate students of SMU are as follows;
- The Scope of courses taught online
- Courses suitable for the online teaching will be taught for this period.
- Courses that cannot be taught during the online teaching will be suspended and further arrangements will be done when school resumes. These courses includes physical education, practical internships and practical theory courses.
- Courses scheduled to begin on the 5th week of the teaching calendar will not be included in the online teaching plan.

- Learning requirements for Students
- During this period, students are required to complete the tasks assigned to them by the teacher (s) of a particular course, including study videos, educational software and other materials of that course.
- Students are required to complete all assignments assigned to them and must submit them on time as well.
- Students are required to actively participate in class and involve in any discussions during a class session.
- Students are advised not to upload any materials or videos unrelated to the course on the learning platform.
- Course assessment methods
- All examinations will be conducted offline after school resumes. If a course ends while the online teaching is ongoing, the examination will not be conducted online but will be scheduled till students return to school.
- The grading format for a course will be composed of student’s participation score for the online class and examination score of the student at the end of the course. The students' online learning (including online check-in, watching the courseware video and other learning materials, participating in online discussion, uploading homework, etc.) is included in the participation scores.
- Other relevant matters
Makeup examination for first semester 2019-2020 is temporarily suspended. Arrangements will be made after students return to school. Course selection for the second semester (spring
- Thursday, February 27th, 2020.
Students should visit the Academic Affairs Office website for more information regarding the course selection.
- If students cannot return to school due to the epidemic, supervisors or instructors will make full use of the graduation design (thesis) system. Supervisors will make use of telephone and other social media such as QQ, WeChat, and Emails to maintain a close contact with their students in terms of guidance for their thesis. If students cannot return to school by the time of defense, students can use the online defense method.
- Distribution of educational materials: The school will provide the “Student Materials Payment Form” according to the list of educational materials ordered by students online and on a class basis. Students must fill the “Address Registration Form” provided by the supplier on a class-by-class basis. Students will transfer the book fee to the designated Alipay account of the supplier. The supplier will send the educational materials to the students after receiving the order and the students will pay the express fee after receiving the educational material.
